PROJECTS

White Point Landslide

CLIENT City of Los Angeles

Location San Pedro, CA

Shannon & Wilson reviewed and provided remediation options for an active 250,000 cubic yard landslide, which truncated an adjacent road, Paseo Del Mar, effectively blocking coastal access between Palos Verdes and San Pedro.

The site included a nature preserve with an environmentally sensitive habitat and a retired missile facility.

The scope of work included review of site history, biological assessment, exploration using a multi-rig drilling program, chemical testing of soil, installation and observation of wells, vibrating wire piezometers, and inclinometers, mapping and interpretation of geologic structure, and stability analyses. The geotechnical report presented several improvement and repair options. Final construction incorporated our recommendations for a dewatering system, a slope anchor system, and grading of the headscarp.
